FAQs

1. What is a space message and how does it work?

Forever in Space is a unique service that allows you to send personal messages, audio, and pictures into the cosmos using a specially designed satellite. You upload your messages, audio, or pictures to our platform. We then transmit these using a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)

2. How long do I have to purchase a message?

Our satellite is currently being built and we are planning on launching it in 2025.  While you have a little bit of time before it heads up, there is limited space to store messages so be sure to act soon!

3. When will my message be sent?

All messages will be sent in the order they are received once the satellite reaches orbit in 2025, except those that were purchased with Priority messaging or whose owners were lucky enough to get one of our limited edition boxes.

4. How far will my message travel – is it really forever?

There is no way to know for sure how far, the universe is vast and chaotic; however, as the light that composes your message continues to travel through space it will continue to diverge from a narrow beam into a wider and wider one which means the likelihood is good that a portion of your message, no matter how small, will continue to travel through space effectively forever. How far exactly? The exact distance will depend on many factors, including the lifespan of the universe as it continues to expand!

5. Will my message be received by aliens – what happens if they invade?

While Lumina 1 is the first commercial satellite project that allows for direct space-to-space transmission of your message, Earth has been transmitting messages for years into deep space just by the nature of how TV and Radio signals work; if they get angry over messages it is unlikely ours would be the cause. Here is a great paper on this topic if you wish to read further Click here

As for an alien race getting upset and invading - We certainly hope not! But if aliens are advanced enough to receive and decode the message, they're probably also advanced enough to understand it's a peaceful gesture.

6. Is there a limit to how many messages can be sent by Lumina 1?

Yes, due to the constraints of the satellite, there is a limit to how many messages we can send on this launch. So act now!

7. What happens after I upload my message?

Once your message is uploaded, it will be queued for transmission. You'll receive a confirmation notification via email once it's been sent.

8. Can I track my message?

Yes, you will be able to view the status of your message on our mission hub webpage once it is sent. This will also include the theoretical distance your message has traveled in the cosmos.

9. Is this a real endeavor or an elaborate scam?

Absolutely it is a real endeavor. We are real space lovers and have spent our own money to design and build the satellite through our partner Near Space Launch. You can also read more about us here.

We understand why you are cautious though. As space lovers and advocates ourselves we have been burned on projects in the past that failed to launch, did not work, or were downright scams. For this reason, we are guaranteeing all space messages will be successfully sent into space and you will receive a refund on your order.  We also offer a very generous return window for any physical goods such as our mission kits!

10. How will the satellite be launched?

Once the satellite passes environmental testing and as we near 2025 we will work with our partner Near Space Launch to contract with a commercial launch provider company.

11. What if I want to send a message but don't know what to say?

That's okay! The beauty of this service is that your message can be anything you want it to be. It could be a favourite quote,a personal mantra, a memory, or even just a simple "Hello, Universe!" The important thing is that it's a message from you, travelling through the cosmos.
